While unpacking check the electrode for mechanical damage.Please report any damage immediately to your METTLER TOLEDOsupplier.2. Remove the protective cap and rinse the electrode for a shorttime with deionised water. Carefully remove the silicon protectionfrom the diaphragm with the aid of the knife supplied (cf. greeninstruction images on the packaging). If the electrode hasalready been used the sensitive part can be cleaned ifnecessary with a soft toothbrush and a mild soap solution, andthen rinsed for a short time with deionised water. After rinsingthe electrode should only be dabbed. Any rubbing of thepH-sensitive glass can increase the response time as a resultof electrostatic charge accumulation.3. Check the space behind the pH sensitive glass for air bubbles andremove any air bubbles that may be present by shaking theelectrode lightly in a vertical direction.4. Place the electrode into the armature as described in theinstructions for the armature.5. Connect the electrode and the pH transmitter with the correspondingcable (VP6, VP8, AK9). Observe the connections scheme thataccompanies the cable or the transmitter.6. Intelligent ISM™ sensors such as InPro 325X i enable «plug andmeasure» and extended diagnostics. Operation of the electrodesin the ISM mode requires the M700 transmitter as well as an ISMpH-module (2700 i X). For installation, commissioning andoperation of the ISM system please observe the instructions forthe transmitter, module and cable.5 Operation:Calibration of the electrode and pH transmitterBefore a calibration immerse the electrode for 10 minutes in a pH7.00 or pH 4.01 buffer solution whilst connecting it to the transmitter.A 2-point calibration is recommended, e.g. pH 7.00 and pH 4.01buffer solutions. For further details please consult the operatinginstructions for the pH transmitter.6 Maintenance1. After each working cycle the electrode tip and diaphragm(s) areto be carefully rinsed with deionised water. Any drying out ofresidues from the solution being measured on these parts mustbe avoided at all costs!2. If the electrode is not in use it is stored with the electrode tip andthe diaphragm immersed in a tank of electrolyte (9823 / 3M KClor 9848 Friscolyt™).3. If the electrode is stored in its armature the rules describedunder Item 2 apply, although the electrolyte has to be slightlymodified for storage purposes (2 parts of buffer solution pH 9.2to 10 parts of electrolyte) in order to avoid any corrosion ofthe armature parts.4. If an electrode is inadvertently stored in a dry condition forseveral days it must be rinsed for several hours in a standardstorage electrolyte.5. The plug-in head should occasionally be checked for possibletraces of moisture. If necessary clean it thoroughly with deionisedwater or alcohol and then dry it off carefully.7 Removal of sources of malfunctionWith a soft toothbrush and water any residues can easily be removedfrom the electrode. Mild washing agents can also be used. Proteincontaminations on the diaphragm can be most likely removed withthe cleaning solution (order no. 51 340 070).a Warning: Solutions containing hydrofluoric acid damage thepH sensitive part of the electrode.8 Environmental protectionWaste electrical products should not be disposed ofwith household waste. Please recycle where facilitiesexist.
