New York School Abstract #8 Expressionism Oil on Canvas Signed TOMCO Click image to enlarge Description The New York School was an informal group of American painters, poets, dancers and musicians active in the 1950s and 1960s in New York City. This is a great original oil painting from that School and era that is both signed (TOMCO) and numbered on the back side of the canvas “New York School Abstract #8”. I believe the “F-1747-B” is an identifier for Soicher Marin LLC. I love the strong painter brushstrokes and bold colors in shades of blue, purple, red, orange, yellow and white of this piece. The canvas measures 20” x 20” and inside the custom white wood frame it measures 21 ¼” x 21 ¼ x 2”. The canvas plus framing weighs 4 pounds 14.6 ounces. Even though I was not familiar with the artist, I had a strong emotional reaction to this piece the first time I saw it. The color palette stimulated my senses and I love the composition. Of course, art is so personal and everyone has their own tastes; but, this piece just “spoke to me” from the get go. Hopefully, it does to you also I’m still not familiar with the artist.
