Really Sharp & Very Rare Edward Miller New Juno #2 Parlor Table LampGreat Late Victorian Style & works very well, Circa 1895-1910Approx: 19″ High without shade, Shade will vary in height, 4.5 lbs without shadeThe Dark Globe Shaped Shade is included if you want it, but the glass chimney in one picture is not. It was used for reference only. Also, we do not ship with light bulbs for safety reasons. If you do not want the shade, shipping should be less and we will refund any difference after packing. Shipping is set as if shade is included. This is truly a wonderful table lamp by Edward Miller and appears to be an exceptionally rare one as we could not find a single exact match to it in sales records going back 30 years. We found a lot of figural lamps by Edward Miller of course, but none of this exact model lady’s bust. The few we found with a female bust on the lamp were dated 1878 and 1881 but we feel this is 1895 or shortly after as the New Juno #2 Font has an 1895 Patent date on it. The lamp features a unique shiny brass tone finished woman wearing a hat and necklace set against the patinaed brass stim & cast iron base and New Juno #2 font. The base is cast iron, but the bust is likely a painted brass or spelter. The base and stim above the lady’s bust both attract to a magnet but the lady and the top New Juno #2 font do not. If the lamp was modified in other any other fashion other than the electrification, we have no way of knowing. This was from an estate sale featuring some very rare an ornate pieces. The lamp is very solid but had a repair to one foot as shown in pictures. This has been electrified as shown, perhaps in the 1950’s or 1960’s based on the look of the cord. We did not try to polish the brass font or any other part of the lamp as some prefer a tarnished look. This lamp has several options for whatever type of shade you may choose. It has a four prong chimney holder and a carriage (or shade holder) bracket as shown, but does not have the wider four wired bracket shade holder for holding a 12″ or larger shade as some may have, but you could easily use one if you have such a shade holder and shade. We have seen the table lamps with everything from shades like ours to hurricane shades, so you can use about anything that you can make fit it. Originally, this would have been an oil (kero) lamp with a chimney and larger or moderate sized upper shade. Today, you could use the lamp that way (although not with oil) if you chose or use as shown in pictures. We simply turned the holder bracket (that rests around the chimney holder area) upside down and gently rested the dark globe shaped shade we had on top of it. It rests ok there, but the lamp should not be placed in an area where it could be bumped or other as it is a resting fit only, not locked in or secured tightly. When we acquired the lamp there was no shade with it, so this is just a modern shade we found at a hardware store. We almost grabbed an art deco style shade in white milk glass, that would have looked really nice as well, but opted for the darker one. Anyway, that would be up to the buyer. If you do not want the shade, we can ship without one which will save $5 or so on shipping as we can ship in a much smaller and lighter package. Just let us know after you buy if you want the dark globe shade. The New Juno # 2 Lamps were made by the Edward Miller company from 1895 and up. This was originally an oil lamp as noted but converted to electric also as noted. The patent date on the font wick adjustment knob has the 1895 Patent date but it is very faint as we did not attempt to clean it. Best guess on age is 1895 to very early 1900’s as Edward Miller began shifting to electric lamps by the mid 1910’s and up. As noted the other Lady Bust figural lamps by Edward Miller were dated pre 1890, so they may not have made many past 1900 as that style was likely less popular. We sell a lot of antique lighting fixtures, lamps, chandeliers, oil lamps and more and while we test our lamps and chandeliers when we buy them, we do not take them apart to examine them internally if they are already working. This fixture came from a very selective antique collector’s estate specializing in rare items from this era and others. We left item just as we found it minus some dust. The process is not difficult, but the timing of such does not allow adequate time for the item to be returned to us and then for us to proceed with a claim (chain of custody questions can arise as well on returned items due to double shipping and handling so it is just easier for Buyers). So again, as noted in listing, we do not offer returns. Of course, there is free local pick up and we can meet to assist if you are near Indianapolis or driving through. We do this often.
