E-85 IS JUST WHAT IT MEANS! 85% ETHANOL!!!!YOUR FUEL PUMP WONT LAST BUT A COUPLE OF MONTHS AT MOST IF YOU PUT THAT E-85 IN IT. NUMBER 2.WATCH OUT FOR THE CHINA LOOK-A-LIKE FUEL PUMPS!THERE ARE FUEL PUMPS OUT THERE THAT LOOK ALMOST IDENTICAL TO THE OE ONE YOU SEE HERE FOR YOUR ENGINE.THEM DEFECTIVE FAKES WILL NOT WORK RIGHT AND WE SERIOUSLY MEAN THAT MOST DO NOT EVEN WORK AT ALL!!! LOOK AT THE PHOTOS TO SEE WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT OF THEIR INTERNAL COMPONETS.THEIR DIAPHRAGM IS MADE OF SOMEWEIRD THIN RUBBER LAYER OVER BOTH SIDES OF WHAT LOOKS TO BE LIKE A WIRE MESH SCREEN! VERY ODD! IT HAS NO GIVE TO IT LIKE A RUBBER DIAPHRAGM DOES. IT IS JUST ALL AROUND MADE WRONG!1. THE DIAPRAGM IS THIN AND TOO SMALL AROUND WHERE IT DOES NOT WANT TO SIT INTO THE RESSESED AREA WHERE IT IS SUPOSED TO. IF IT IS TOO TIGHT THEN HOW IS IT (THE DIAPHRAGM) SUPOSSED TOFLUCTUATE BACK AND FORTH TO PUMP THE FUEL! WE CANNOT SEE WHERE IT CAN!I MEAN……. MAYBEY LITTLE TINY MOVEMENTS BUT NOW YOUR TALKING ABOUT A LOT OF WEAR AND TEAR ON THE STARTER MOTOR WITH ALL THE CRANKING!2. EVEN THE BRASS BREATHER VENT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE IT ALLOWS ACTUAL AIR TO PASS BACK AND FORTH THROUGH IT!THIS IS A MUST FOR THE DIAPHRAGM TO BE ABLE TO MAKE THE MOVEMENT IT NEEDS TO PUMP THE FUEL.EVEN THE VALVES IN IT ARE MADE OF PLASTIC AND NOT RUBBER! HOW IS THIN PLASTIC SUPOSSED TO SEAL UP AGAINST PLASTIC? IT WONT! THIS WILL CAUSE THE FUEL TO SEEP BACK TOWARDS THE FUEL TANK. SPECIALLY IF THE FUEL TANK IS LOCATED AT A LOWER LEVEL UNDER THAT OF THE ENGINE LIKE UNDER THE SEAT OF A TRACTOR. THUS EVERY TIME YOU SHUT YOUR ENGINE DOWN, YOU WILL HAVE TO ALMOST CHOKE THE CARBURETOR TO GET THE ENGINE TO FIRE BACK UP!3. THE MATERIAL THAT WE SEEN THAT THEY USED TO MAKE THE DIAPHRAGM IS NOT MADE OF THICK RUBBER. THAT MATERIAL DOES NOT STRETCH AT ALL! IT IS LIKE A THIN LAYER OF RUBBER SPRAYED OUT OVER BOTH SIDES OF A SCREEN WIRE MESH!EVEN THE SPRING THEY USED TO PUSH THE DIAPHRAGM BACK WAS MADE TOO STIFF SO THAT IT WILL NOT ALLOW THE ENGINES PISTON TO MAKE THE MOVEMENT OF WHAT THE DIAPHRAGM NEEDS TO PUMP THE FUEL!!! IT IS AS IF THEY HAVE NO CLUE AS TO WHAT THE PURPOSE IS OF THIS UNIT OR DO THEY?OH! BUT NOW THERE IS A THOUGHT!!MAYBE THEY ARE MADE THIS WAY ON PURPOSE TO MAKE OTHER COMPONETS/PARTS TO FAIL QUICKLY! LIKE THE STARTER MOTOR TO WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME?MAYBE TO GET YOU ALL TO BUY THEIR CHEAPER JUNK STARTER MOTOR THAT NEEDS REPLACED SHORTLY AFTER THE WARRENTY RUNS OUT?PRETTY SMART IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT! THIS SHOULD GIVE YOU AN INDICATION THAT YOU MAY NOT NEED A FUEL PUMP. NOW IF YOU LOOSEN YOUR GAS TANKS FUEL CAP JUST A LITTLE AND BLOW SOME AIR INTO THE FUEL LINE GOING BACK TO THE FUEL TANK AND THEN PUT THE HOSE BACK INTO THE QUART JAR AND LOWER IT TO THE GROUND AGAIN AND YOU NOW HAVE FUEL FLOW. YOU THEN KNOW THAT YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE FUEL TANK TO CLEAN IT OUT. WHY? BECAUSE WHATEVER IT WAS IS GOING TO FLOAT BACK INTO THE WAY AGAIN AND RESTRICT THE FUEL FLOW IF YOU DONT CLEAN IT OUT. LET’S SAY YOU HAD FUEL FLOW AFTER LOWERING THE LINE TO THE GROUND IN THE FIRST PLACE. THEN YOU NEED TO BLOW THROUGH THE FUEL PUMP ON THE INLET PORT. IF YOU CAN’T BLOW THROUGH IT THEN REMOVE THE LINE FROM THE FUEL PUMP THAT GOES DIRECTLY TO THE CARBURETOR. NOW TRY TO BLOW THROUGH THAT HOSE GOING INTO THE CARBURETOR. IF YOU STILL CAN’T, THEN YOU KNOW THAT THERE IS SOMETHING PLUGGED IN THE NEEDLE SEAT AREA THAT IS INSIDE OF THE CARBURETOR. SOMETHING IS STOPPING THAT FLOW. REMOVE THE CARBURETOR AND TAKE IT TO A PROFESSIONAL TO HAVE IT SERVICED. IF YOU ARE A CERTIFIED MECHANIC THEN TAKE THE CARBURETOR APART YOURSELF AND REMOVE THE FLOAT BOWL AND NEEDLE FROM THE NEEDLE SEAT. NOW ATTACH AN AIR HOSE TO THE NEEDLE SEAT WHERE YOU PULLED THE NEEDLE OUT OF AND BLOW BACK THROUGH IT WITH AN AIR HOSE. IT SHOULD HAVE NOW BLOWN OUT WHATEVER IT WAS THAT PLUGGED IT UP. NOW REASSEMBLE THE CARBURETOR IN THE SAME MANNER IT WAS TAKEN APART AND TRY TO BLOW LOW PREASURE (WE DO IT BY MOUTH) INTO THE CARBURETOR FROM THE INLET PORT GOING IN TO THE CARBURETOR. YOUR PROBLEM SHOULD NOT BE SOLVED. NOW WHAT YOU NEED TO DO FROM YOUR FUEL TANK TO YOUR ENGINES CARBURETOR IS MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS ASSEMBELED IN THIS ORDER…CLEAR FUEL LINE FROM GAS TANK PORT-to-FUEL SHUT OFF VALVE-to-FUEL FILTER-to-CLEAR FUEL LINE-to-FUEL PUMP-to-CLEAR FUEL LINE-to-CARBURETOR. THAT ONE WAS ORIGINALLY BUILT FOR TECUMSEH AND WAS ONLY USED ON TECUMSEHS LARGER SINGLE CYLINDER ENGINES. NOW BOTH ONAN AND BRIGGS WERE BOTH HAVING ISSUES HERE. THAT 3000 SERIES WAS NOT CUTTING THE MUSTARD!NOW TECUMSEH COMES OUT WITH A NEW V TWIN ENGINE. TECUMSEH DESIGNED THEIR OWN SQUARE FUEL PUMP FOR THAT V TWIN. IT HAS A ALMOST 50 CENT SIZE DIAPHRAGM IN IT. WALBRO AND BRIGGS BOTH COPIED TECUMSEHS SQUARE FUEL PUMP DESIGN. ALL FOUR (TECUMSEH, ONAN, BRIGS AND WALBRO WAS NOT REALLY HAPPY WITH THE PUMP THAT THEY NAMED THE WALBRO WIP! THIS IS WHEN WALBRO STEPPED OUT YET AGAIN AND DESIGNED THIS OE FUEL PUMP WITH A SILVER DOLLAR SIZE RUBBER DIAPHRAGM IN IT. THAT STOPPED ALL OF THE NONSENSE IN ITS TRACKS BUT NOW YOU NEED TO READ WHY THIS WAS NEEDED. THE ONE THEY DESIGNED WAS A PLASTIC THROW AWAY ONE. WORKED GREAT BUT !!! THAT TURNED OUT TO BE A BIG FLAW THAT ONLY MADE KOHLER EXCELL AHEAD. THE 90S CAME WITH IT A BIG BOOM OF MANY COMPANIES OUT THERE WITH NEW IDEAS. WANTING BIGGER POWERFUL TWIN ENGINES FOR THEIR MANY COMMERCIAL EQUIPTMENT TO START BUILDING. KOHLER STUCK WITH THEIR MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP FOR AWHILE LONGER.
