This auction is for one (1) set of 2 limited edition bimetallic encased coins commemorating 60 years of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Shining Star of the Caribbean, 1952 – 2012. We assigned them a combined $15 face value for use as trade tokens to our Ebay store. DESCRIPTION: Both pieces feature same obverse, which provides the name, location, and web site of our Ebay store. Reverses: The Penny piece features a 2012D Shield type Cent in red Uncirculated condition. Its reverse shows reads: “Commowealth of Puerto Rico” both in Spanish and English, with a stylized triangle with a star at center, details taken from the Puerto Rican flag, symbolizing it being the “Shining Star of the Caribbean.” The double dates “1952 – 2012” hints to the commemorative nature of of our political continuity and stability, things that many places on Earth lack, and which tourists from all over look after so much. The rest of the piece features other picturesque vignettes on things Puerto Rico is well known for, as is its Coqui frog, representing its peculiar wildlife and Caribbean music, the Native American Taíno sun, representing our Cultural Heritage and also our beloved tropical heat. The Surfer represents a sport so much practiced in Rincon and other parts of Puerto Rico, considered the World’s 3rd most looked after place to practice surf. It also features the Puerto Rican flag, stylized in the shape of the map of our main island, and a face value of $5 in merchandise. The Quarter piece features a Gold Plated 2012P El Yunque Quarter (it is known at least 3 used D mint quarters). All phrases & dates celebrate same subject, but details include: the Maga national flower (similar to a big hibiscus), the “Garita” Spanish castle sentry box, our flag in island shape, the Caribbean Hummingbird and the $10 denomination. SPECIFICS: The Penny encasesement measures 35mm in total size, 6.6 grams total weight, uses uncirculated 2012D pennies inside an aluminum ring. Total of 110 pieces encased. The Quarter encasements measure 40mm in total size, weight about half ounce, and uses Gold Plated 2012P pieces inside an aluminum ring. Total of 60 pieces encased.
