THIS BEAUTIFUL, VINTAGE AVON RING IS STERLING SILVER AND WAS APPROPRIATELY NAMED “TREASURED HEART” (These rings are getting more and more difficult to find. I’ve only been able to acquire a few of them recently, and the first ones were listed a VERY short time before they were snapped up. Don’t hesitate if you want it, I really never know when I will find more of the QUALITY I will handle… remember, these beauties are over 30 years old! — this ring was released by AVON in 1975) RING HAS A BEAUTIFUL DETAIL PATINA (if you would prefer, let me know and I will polish the ring before I send it.) THIS ONE IS A GEM — all detail still crisp and sharp. I recommend you NEVER use commercial silver cleaners on silver jewelry as it tends to bleach out the “personality” of silver. HISTORY OF THE SPOON RING: Since silver rings have been found dating back as far as 700 AD, the exact dates for the first spoon rings is difficult to say (when spoons started being made out of silver would be a good guess)… but, the facts that are known about SPOON RINGS are as follows. It was a common occurance for servants to “acquire” a spoon or fork from their employers silver set from time to time. Many of these were made into silver wedding rings for those unable to afford to buy a real wedding ring. Spoon rings were also used by producers of silver table ware sets, commonly given to brides for wedding gifts. The silversmiths/sellers of these sets would give a spoon ring to girls registering at their place of business so the girls would remember, and be able to show, the pattern they picked out — for potential gift givers. They became very popular again in the 1970s craze for wrap rings… when AVON had this one produced. Some of the modern versions are created in moulds rather than from actual flatware.
